Should I Still Submit Myself for Roles If I Already Have an Agent? | Teacup of Wisdom
Submitting yourself for the right roles is still part of the work — even when you have representation.
Should I still Submit Myself?
Dear Ms. Wisdom
I finally have representation — an agent who pitches me for real projects. But I keep hearing that serious actors still submit their own materials directly to casting directors. I don’t want to step on my rep’s toes or look unprofessional. Should I let my agent handle everything, or keep sending out submissions on my own? Or should I still submit myself to projects? Please help.

Dear Cautiously Ambitious
Having an agent means you have professional support. Your artistic life, however, remains your responsibility.
It is completely appropriate to reach out to casting offices when you have a clear reason. Introduce yourself after a showcase, a short film, or a recent role that reflects your current range. Many casting directors appreciate hearing directly from actors who communicate with care and purpose.
Keep your outreach simple: a short note, a current headshot, a link to your work, and your agent’s contact information. Let your rep know about your plans so everyone stays informed.
The industry moves quickly. Staying visible and professional helps people remember you when the right opportunity appears. Initiative and communication create steady ground.
